Survey the route before pulling anything

Every installation starts with a route survey: the path each segment takes, the ducts and trays it uses, the joints and closures it needs, and the obstacles it must avoid. A survey also records where test points will sit, because a route without test points cannot be accepted properly.

Share the survey with your supplier. A supplier who sees the route can confirm the cable families per segment and flag a mismatch before delivery, when it is still cheap to fix.

Pulling, bending and protecting cable

Pull cable steadily and never force it around a corner. Sharp bends are the classic installation injury: they may not break the fiber outright, but they degrade the link and show up later as intermittent faults. Use bend management at every tray, duct entry and enclosure, and keep pulling tension within the cable's intended handling, as your installer's practice requires.

Protect cable ends from dust and moisture from the moment the reel is opened. A contaminated end-face causes more failed acceptance tests than any other site habit, and it is entirely preventable with caps and cleaning discipline.
